The assignment says add a new wiki page to discuss why we chose the recording and other ideas on how we can use it in different classrooms. So, I'm inserting a link to a new page? I'll go ahead and transfer the ideas from the discussion board, but feel free to add any more. I hope this works! Here's the Link:

FINAL GROUP WORKSHEET:

Actually it is my turn to compile the work... I will get started after I complete my NARA worksheet.- Jamie Lee

Here is my NARA worksheet: . Diane, I think it is your turn to compile the work. Thank you!! I think we have a good list of why we selected the work. I will add a couple options to the list of ways we can use this song in the classroom. Thanks again!!! ~ Tauni

Good morning Group!
Jamie emailed that something had happened while she was working on this page. I think I've recovered your work for you...
Laura

Umm ... anyone know what happend to the discussion that we had going here yesterday? When I logged on this morning, this was just a blank page again. Anyway, here's the website I posted yesterday of the sheet music: http://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/inharmony/detail.do?action=detail&fullItemID=/lilly/devincent/LL-SDV-213054 Some of the verses are changed a little, but most of it matches. I couldn't understand all the words that they were saying. I still can't figure out what they say after the "Ha Ha Ha" at the end. Can either of you tell? Diane

Here's my NARA sheet on the Little Red Schoolhouse: . I've started discussion on the discussion board again. Is it my turn to compile? I'd be happy to. Just let me know. - Diane

Hello ladies! Any preferences to which audio to analzye? I'm thinking either something from the Spoken Comedy genre or the Spoken Word genre. Spoken Comedy could lead to some discussions about the culture at the time of the recording. Why something might be funny in 1919, for example ... researching the time period to find out if there are references in the comedy about social conventions ... things like that. (I'm just trying to answer the question in the assignment: Why did we pick that particular recording?) Also, what family life was like when we all "sat around and listened together". The Spoken Word has some children's stories that might fit into a classroom setting in some ways. Also something with a later copyright date might have better sound quality and would be easier to hear : ) Just thinking out loud ... What title sounds good to you? Diane

I thought maybe we could use the popular vocal selection of "In the Little Red School House". I listened to several of the spoken word selections and I know that the quality of them would not entertain my students . I wasn't sure if the comedy ones could really be used with the little ones. Would the comedic parts go over their heads? I thought with this song about teh school house. We could compare and contrast how the school looked back then compared to now. We can ask students why they think the boys in the song want to be back at their school. There are a lot of descriptions of how the school day went back in that time compared to now that would really help students see how things were different. They could draw a picture based on what they heard of what they think a school room looked like back in that time. They have personal experience with their own classroom and know it better than anything else but I think they would really be interested in seeing how things have changed for the better or if some things are the same. They could even come up with their own song or lyrics to a song about how school is now that kids in the future would listen to or could listen to or read. What do we think about that? ~ Tauni

Since both you and Jamie Lee are kindergarten teachers, your idea makes good sense, Tauni. -- Diane
